BRENT HOLLOWAY

My name is Brent Holloway; I am a third year student of Political Science at UCSB. I am a regular daily mass attendee at St. Mark’s Parish in Isla Vista. I run our bible study group and I also help out with pretty much all of the events that are put on here at St. Mark’s. I do all of this because I have found a truly wonderful family here at St. Mark’s and it gives me great pleasure to be able to give back to the community.

It all started when I went on the Search Retreat fall quarter of my freshman year. I was not having a particularly terrible time adjusting to college life; I had made plenty of new friends in the dorms and I was enjoying myself for the most part. However, I didn’t feel like I fit in very well with these new friends and there were plenty of times when I found myself feeling sad or lonely. That all changed when I went on Search. At Search I found more than a group of friends but a family. The bonds I made with my fellow Searchers that weekend turned my college experience from so-so to the time of my life.

Because of everything that St. Mark’s had done for me, I wanted to give back to the community, so the next Spring I started helping out with Search. Soon after I was leading the bible study group and XLT and before I knew it, I was accepted as one of the Parish Interns here at St. Mark’s. I am so blessed to be where I am today, I hope I get the chance to meet all of the new faces at St. Mark’s this year, and pass my blessing on to them.
