The parish finance council is largely, but not exclusively concerned with temporal matters of parish life. These temporal matters include advice and counsel in matters of collections and fundraising, the physical plant, planning and forecasting with budgets, and parish development. The finance council is canonically mandated (C. 537, "Each parish is to have a finance council with is regulated by canon law as well as by norms issued by the diocesan bishop; in this council the Christian faithful, selected according to the same norms, aid the pastor in the administration of parish goods."
Ideally, the finance council members should be trustworthy and respected members of the community and represent a variety of talent and areas of expertise.
